Welcome the 2018/2019 Skating Season!
The Drayton Valley Skating Club executive members and coaches are excited to bring another year of skating to new and returning skaters. Our club is excited to offer effective programming for all skating levels and disciplines within the Skate Canada program framework.
The STARSkate season begins September 10th, 2018 and runs through March 8, 2019.
Lesson Delivery Improvements
This season the club has modernized its lesson delivery by implementing group lessons for all STARSkaters in combination with one-on-one time with coaches. This approach will provide more coaching time for skaters and provide better structure, especially for our younger STARSkaters.
To bring our STARSkaters to the next level, the coaches have created a new regime for off-ice training that will help skaters get more value out of their on-ice and lesson time.
MANDATORY Orientation Meeting (Curling Lounge) - September 10, 2018
There is a mandatory skater and parent meeting scheduled for September 10th in the Omniplex curling lounge starting at 5:00 PM. Please make every effort to attend this important meeting where our coaches and executive will explain the many program changes this season and answer skaters’ and parents’ questions. Skaters will need this information before they can start skating this season. Raffle books for this year’s fundraising will be available for pick up at the September 10 meeting.
In order to reduce parents’ volunteer requirements, the Club has purchased an iPad for coaches to run music from the ice, rather than parents running the music in the music room. We will try this out for the first part of the season but if it doesn’t work we will need parents to volunteer for music as we’ve done in the past.
Program Assistants (PA’s)
Program Assistants are important for our club to run a successful learn-to-skate (CanSkate) program. PA’s get to help new skaters and also have opportunities for other incentives. For more information, please contact Coach Trina Beckett at (780) 514-0781.
Information for the club is shared via e-mail, website, Facebook posts, the Remind app, our bulletin board and also added to skaters’ mail folders.
Volunteer Executive Board
The Drayton Valley Skating Club is run by a volunteer Executive Board who give their time and skills to make our club great. Please consider joining the executive we welcome new faces and new ideas and it’s a great way to stay informed. Executive meetings are the 1st Monday of every one month @ 6:30 in the Omniplex Curling Lounge meeting room.
