October DVSC Newsletter Update
Fall has arrived, and we are gearing up for pre-CanSkate and CanSkate starting on October 12, 2022. This month's newsletter has a few updates and reminders for all parents and skaters. All pre-CanSkate and CanSkate parents review the attached orientation package.
Ice Attire
As the season winds up, we want to remind skaters that we do not allow oversized sweaters, jeans, baggy clothing or pyjama pants on the ice. Skaters' attire must be fitted and not distracting to allow coaches to see body positioning better and to protect the skater from unnecessary tripping hazards. We recommend that you wear leggings, warm-up pants or fitted sweatpants.
For more information, please see our Skaters Code of Conduct page.
Ice Safety
To avoid collisions and near misses, safety is of the utmost importance. Skaters must be respectful and mindful of all other participants on the ice.
Learn more by visiting our Club Rules and Regulations page.
Mandatory Activities
Throughout the season, there will be several opportunities to give back to the club with mandatory volunteer activities, including Carnival, fundraising and the StarSkate PA Program. If you have any questions about the activities, please reach out.
Fundraising
Two fundraisers will be starting in mid-October. Watch for a separate email and links for ordering.
- Purdy's Chocolate
- Wilhauk Beer Jerkey
CanSkate
CanSkate starts October 12, 2022, and we are gearing up for an exciting year. Please be sure that skaters arrive on time and are ready to go on the ice when class starts. Parents must remain in attendance during their child's lesson. We also ask parents not to remove their skaters off the ice until class ends.
For complete information on the upcoming CanSkate season, please see the attached orientation package.
StarSkate
Reminder to notify your coach if you will be late or miss your lesson. If your coach has not been adequately informed about missed classes, they will charge the relevant lesson fees.
Executive Meetings
Our executive team is a group of volunteer parents who work to deliver the programs offered through the DVSC. Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of the month. Please feel free to contact us or attend a meeting if you have questions, feedback, or concerns.
For a list of the upcoming meeting dates, please visit our Volunteer Opportunities & Meeting page.
Lastly, we remind you that there is no skating on Thanksgiving Monday. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
Thank you,
The Executive Committee
