SEPTEMBER DVSC NEWSLETTER 2022

We are so excited to get back on the ice! Your parent executive committee, met on September 7, 2022, to discuss details for the upcoming 2022/23 season and have a few updates for you.

Coaching and Skating Fees

Please ensure to have all club fees paid before entering on the ice to get started; this includes submitting volunteer and fundraising cheques.

For those of you who receive private or additional skating lessons, please be reminded that those coaches will invoice you separately from the club. If you have any questions, please check in with your coach.

Coaching Fee Updates

Coach Baily and coach Jamie have increased rates to $8.50 for private lessons and $11.50 for group lessons.

Skate Sharpening

We encourage our skaters in CanSkate classes to have their skates sharpened and maintained at the Omniplex pro-shop or Edmonton, as we have seen some issues with sharpening from other locations. If your child is in more advanced classes like RisingStars and up, we recommend taking them to Edmonton to maintain the best edge for performance.

  • Proper fit
  • Firm ankle support
  • Correct blade placement
  • Staff at the above stores will help with the proper fitting of skates

Club Jackets

We will be ordering club jackets early on in the season for those who wish to order DVSC swag. Watch for our email and REMIND announcements for sizing and ordering information.

CanSkate Equipment Requirements

  • CSA-approved hockey/skating helmets are MANDATORY. Fit should be snug
  • Clothing should provide warmth but not restrict movement
  • Layering sweat suits, sweaters, ski jackets and long underwear or leotards is recommended. Bulky snowsuits can hinder movement
  • Warm mittens or gloves are a must. Please, no fuzzy mittens, as the fuzz gets stuck to our ice.

DVSC Program Etiquette

Please have your child at the arena on time, dressed and ready to go on the ice at the scheduled session time, using the assigned dressing room. Signs are posted on the arena dressing room entries.

You will find a calendar of your scheduled classes when you log into your account on the DVSC website and navigate to the calendar section of your account.

Casino Night Fundraising

We will be organizing a casino night in October. Please watch for email or REMIND announcements for volunteer opportunities. If you are interested, please reply to the club and let us know!

That's all the news for now. Stay tuned for additional email or REMIND updates.

Thank you,

The Executive Parent Committee
