PreCan and CanSkate Updates

This season's last day of CanSkate will be February 25, 2023. Please return your progress cards to coaches as soon as possible so final updates can be noted and the report returned to parents.

Equipment and Illness

Please ensure that all equipment fits your child, including helmets, which should fit appropriately so it does not have the opportunity to slide back or come off if a skater should fall.

Also, a quick reminder that it is still cold and flu season. If your child is sick or experiencing symptoms, please keep them home from lessons.

Carnival Costumes and Practice

CanSkate costumes were handed out Wednesday night. If you have not received your costume, don't hesitate to contact our Carnival Director, Robin Johnston, at dvsc.carnival@gmail.com

All skating disciplines, including PreCan and CanSkate skaters, participate in the Carnival show. If you have questions about the practice, picture day or performance, please contact any Executive Committee member, Coaches or our Carnival Director, Robin.

Spring Lessons

We also still have a few extra spaces in the upcoming Spring PreCan and CanSkate programs. Share the news or register online at www.dvskatingclub.ca

StarSkate Updates

Competition News

Several StarSkate participants will be attending this weekend's Cold Lake Competition. We wish each skater the best of luck. Watch our social media feed for updates.

Carnival Costumes

StarSkate costumes were handed out last week. If you have any concerns with your costume, don't hesitate to get in touch with our Carnival Director, Robin Johnston, at dvsc.carnival@gmail.com

Spring Lessons

Please note that we still have additional StarSkate lessons scheduled after the Carnival. A test day will be planned for March 24, 2023. Stay tuned for updates.

Program Assistant Updates

Trina and Jamie will redo the upcoming PA schedule as many StarSkate volunteers have completed their required PA time contributions. Moving into carnival practice the last couple of lessons, we will not need as many PA's. Please watch the WhatsApp group for the updated schedule.

Carnival Updates

As we approach the Ice Show Carnival date, we will send additional REMIND messages and emails to inform you of upcoming important dates and event times. Please ensure you have a moment to review the messages and emails. If you are not receiving communications from the club, please contact Nicole Coleman, our Media Chair, at media.dvsc@gmail.com

Picture Day

Reminder to arrive early and in costume for picture day, February 16, 2023, at 3:30pm.

Carnival Practice

Our Ice Show Carnival practices are in full swing, and all our lines are coming together nicely. We are enjoying watching the skaters and look forward to the big day! Please be reminded that we need all the skaters at every practice.

We will have two dress rehearsals before the Carnival.

Friday Dress Rehearsal: The first one occurs February 24, 2023, and we encourage skaters to be there at 3:30pm for a 4:00pm start.

Final Dress Rehearsal and AM Show: February 25, 2023, will be our final rehearsal and the actual Ice Show. Skaters should be at the rink for the final rehearsal at 10:30am for a 11:00am start.

We encourage skaters to arrive early, in costume and dressed appropriately, wearing warm gloves and layers, as they will be out on the ice for longer than usual during practice.

Costumes and Hard Guards

Please ensure to try on all costumes and let Robin, Carnival Director, know if they don't fit. We encourage ALL skaters to get hard plastic guards for their skates if they don't have any, as we may be walking on rough or cement surfaces. They can be purchased at Canadian Tire for around $10 - $15.

Allergies and Food Sensitivities

We also provide snacks and drinks throughout the rehearsal and show times, so if your child has allergies, please ensure to inform your group's line parent.

Volunteer Positions

The volunteer coordinator, Julie Sinclair, is busy connecting with all volunteers to confirm additional information for Carnival. If you have questions about your volunteer position or have not filled a position, please contact Julie at dvsc.volunteer@gmail.com.

Fundraising

Prize Draw Raffle Ticket Fundraiser

Please note that we mentioned in an earlier email to return raffle booklets on the 20th; however, that is Family Day. We encourage parents to have all raffle ticket books returned to the club by February 16, which is also Picture Day.

We still have extra raffle ticket booklets, and if you can sell additional raffle tickets, don't hesitate to contact Gina at 780-241-0819. The books can be picked up at Oriental Perks, but please message Gina first.

Camrose Casino Night

Casino night fundraising has the potential to be a significant fundraising opportunity for our club. Our fundraising volunteers will be working in the cash kiosks at the casino. We receive a portion of proceeds from both nights, which helps to reduce fees, supports our coaches, and gives back to the club for future skating seasons. If you are interested, we are still looking for volunteers. Please reach out to any Executive Committee Member, or our Volunteer Coordinator, Julie Sinclair, at dvsc.volunteer@gmail.com.

We have 16 spaces to fill over the two-day event, March 24-25, 2023. Each day is made up of eight volunteers that support two shifts; 3:00pm-9:00pm and 8:30pm-2:00am.

Purdy's Fundraiser

We will be selling Purdy'c chocolate just in time for Easter! The link should be ready to start ordering on February 20, 2023. Stay tuned for the order link and dates.

Early Rise Soil Fundraiser

We will also be fundraising by selling 25L bags of garden soil for our upcoming Spring season in March. The soil is supplied by local wholesaler Early Rise Soil Products. You can find their products in most local hardware stores around the province. Ordering information and forms to come.
