DECEMBER DVSC NEWSLETTER 2022

Lessons are wrapping up for the holiday season, and we hope you have a great holiday break. We are looking forward to seeing you again in the New Year!

PreCan and CanSkate Updates

Report cards were issued to skaters during the last set of lessons. Please remember to bring back the report card so your coaches can continue filling them out for the remainder of the season.

If you are interested in registering for our Spring skate, dates and registration information will be released in early 2023. Watch for an email or follow our social media feed to stay informed.

StarSkate Updates

Thank you to all who came out for our Holiday Solo Night. It was a success and enjoyed by all.

Test Day

Our test day is December 16, 2022. If your skater participates in test day, please watch for schedules in your email. Please ensure that skaters arrive early and that the testing invoice is paid before they step on the ice.

Startskate Spring Skate

If you are interested in registering for our Spring skate, dates and registration information will be released in early 2023. Watch for an email or follow our social media feed to stay informed.

Cold Lake StarSkate Competition

 The 2023 NE/NW Region StarSkate Invitational competition is in Cold Lake on February 4-5, 2023. Registration is open until December 19, 2022, but opens up to other clubs after December 12, 2022. Please connect with your coach before registering.

St. Albert StarSkate Competition

The DVSC coaches, volunteers and parents would also like to extend a massive shout-out to several of our skaters who participated in this past week's competition in St. Albert! It was great to see the skaters' hard work pay off. Keep up the excellent work!

Carnival Mandatory Volunteer Positions

In early January, you will receive information from our Volunteer Coordinator, Julie, via email regarding mandatory volunteer positions for our upcoming February Carnival. These positions will count as your volunteer credits.

Fundraising

Our mandatory Cash Prize Raffle Ticket draw fundraiser is due December 16, 2022. The draw for the cash prize will be held on December 21, 2022, at the Omni II arena. Watch our social media feeds for the live draw.

Options for Returning Booklets and Cash

  • Return to a committee member. We can usually be found throughout the Omni II arena and lobby Monday-Friday, roughly between 4-5 pm.
  • Return directly to our fundraising coordinator, Gina, at Oriental Perks. Please text or call 780-241-0819 to plan for drop-off.

If you have any questions about the fundraising or wish to purchase extra tickets, please get in touch with Gina, our Fundraising Coordinator, or an Executive Committee member.

Program Assistant Updates

PA Christmas Party

December 19, 2022, we will host our annual PA Christmas Party in the curling rink meeting room after skating. Food will be provided, and we ask that each skater bring an age and gender-neutral gift exchange of a $20 value.

Program Assistant Schedule Update

We thank all our new PA's for working hard. You are certainly a big help in supporting our Sr PA team and coaches. We also thank our Sr PA team for working with us as the schedule was developed. Moving forward, we will only require each PA to participate in 8 mandatory sessions per skating season.

Scheduling Communications

A WhatsApp group has been created to manage scheduling communications. If you are not receiving messages from the group, please connect with our Media Coordinator, Nicole, to ensure you are added to the group.

How to Stay Informed About Club Events and News

We send regular communications through email and Remind. If you are not signed up, please do! If you are not receiving emails, please ensure you have not unsubscribed or blocked us. If you have any concerns with your email or Remind subscriptions, please get in touch with our Media Coordinator, Nicole, at media.dvsc@gmail.com. As an alternative to digital communications, you can find a hard copy of our newsletters on the bulletin board in the Omni II arena.

Executive Committee

Our executive is a volunteer group of parents, so you can usually find us at the rink during lessons. We meet monthly and encourage parents to join us at meetings if they have questions or concerns.

Our next meeting will be held on January 11, 2023, in the Curling Rink Lounge.
